How does payment work?
For California State Controller claims, the applicable Standard Investigator Agreement sets out the compensation and payment arrangements. I will explain the claimant’s payment and investigator’s fee before you sign.
Payment procedures can differ for other agencies and property types. The written agreement and the holding agency’s rules determine the arrangement.

Are you part of the government?
No. I am Richard D. Sartor, an independent sole proprietor providing unclaimed asset research and recovery assistance. I am not employed by, affiliated with, or acting on behalf of the California State Controller’s Office or any other government agency.
What does my reference number tell me?
It helps identify the correspondence I sent and the property record we need to discuss. It is my research reference, not a government claim number. The reference alone does not verify identity or entitlement.

Do I have to pay or hire you?
No. You decide whether to use my assistance, and California’s official property search and direct claim process are free. If you choose to work with me, my recovery fee is contingent on successful recovery and is agreed in writing before representation. I do not charge an upfront recovery fee.
How is my information handled here?
This page does not ask for your Social Security number, bank details, identification documents, or payment. Please do not put personal information in the reference box.

How long does recovery take?
Timing depends on the agency, property type, documentation, and any ownership questions that need to be resolved. The holding agency makes the claim decision. I cannot guarantee an approval, amount, or payment date.
